![]() Books and other written materials have described a number of possible ways to use the sword including "fast draw techniques centered around drawing the sword and cutting as a simultaneous defensive or attacking action", with "a thrust fencing technique", and with a "reverse grip". When used in film and stage, ninjatō are depicted as being shorter than a katana with a straight blade but they are utilized in a "nearly identical" manner as the katana. Usage ĭue to the lack of historical evidence regarding the existence of the ninjatō, techniques for usage in a martial context are largely speculative. His second possible reason for ninjatō being described as a straight-bladed, rather short sword could be that the ninja were emulating one of the patron Buddhist deities of ninja families, Fudo Myo-oh, who is depicted brandishing a straight-bladed short sword similar to a chokutō. Despite the disputed historical existence of the ninjato, Hayes claims to describe it in detail, and suggests that the typical description of the ninjatō could be due to ninja having to forge their own blades from slabs of steel or iron with the cutting edge being ground on a stone, with straight blades being easier to form than the much more refined curved traditional Japanese sword. Usually of a length "less than 60 cm", the rest of the sword is comparatively "thick, heavy and straight". The ninjatō is typically depicted as being a short sword, often portrayed as having a straight blade (similar to that of a shikomizue) with a square guard. 1984: The first American television production to feature these swords, The Master, was broadcast on NBC from January to August 1984.Īppearance Ninjatō-wielding Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura entertainers, October 2010.1983: The next Hollywood film to feature the ninjatō, Revenge of the Ninja, was released in theaters in September 1983.1981: The first Hollywood film to feature the ninjatō, Enter the Ninja, was released in theaters. ![]() Hayes, an American who studied under Hatsumi in 1975, are published. 1981: Books containing references to the sword written by Masaaki Hatsumi, the founder of the Bujinkan, and Stephen K.1973: Ads selling newly manufactured and imported ninja swords appear in the American magazine Black Belt. That same year, the swords appeared in Shinobi no Mono Kirigakure Saizō (忍びの者 霧隠才蔵) and Shinobi no Mono Zoku Kirigakure Saizō (忍びの者 続・霧隠才蔵), the 4th and 5th entries in the Japanese jidaigeki movie series Shinobi no Mono, released in theaters in Japan. 1964: The Ninja Museum of Igaryu in Japan, which houses replicas of the sword, is established.1956: The first known photograph of a straight-blade ninjatō was featured in a 26-page Japanese booklet entitled Ninjutsu by Heishichirō Okuse.History īecause of the lack of any physical evidence or antique swords from the Sengoku to the Edo matching the description of the ninjatō, the history of the weapon can only be reliably chronicled from the 20th century onwards. Historically, there is no physical evidence for the existence of this " katana-like short sword legendarily used by ninja" before the 20th century, though it is believed that the designs demonstrated by alleged replicas are based on the design of wakizashi or chokutō swords or the swords associated with ashigaru. Replicas of this sword are displayed at the Ninja Museum of Igaryu, established in the mid-1960s., at the Koka Ninja Village Museum in Kōka, Shiga, and at the Gifu Castle Archives Museum in Gifu, Gifu Prefecture, Japan Hayes) as the weapon of the ninja, and is prominently featured in popular culture. The lower cushions tilt more than the other brands, plus a darker fabric (truffles, a darker grey) is available, which wont show the dirt as much.Ģ) Cabin is 2 wider, and the extra room is very helpful when carrying adult passengers. Here are the Pros and Cons of my new one compared to my old one:ġ) More comfortable seats. What I traded in was a 2008 Odyssey EX-L. I test-drove the Honda, Toyota, and Nissan minivans. I decided to wait till I had at least 2000 miles on my 2012 Odyssey EX-L before writing a review on it. It has been and continues to be a remarkably awesome minivan to us, whether knocking around town or driving us across the country to a vacation. Honestly, this is the only thing preventing this minivan from being the world's most perfect vehicle, in my opinion. You should be aware of the engine misfire lawsuit if shopping for a Honda years 2008 through 2016 or so. This invaluable device stopped all the goofy engine vibrations and instilled confidence in our van not having oil seepage, plug fouling and misfire issues. I forget our Odyssey had VCM because I disabled it long ago with VCMuzzler. It towed our popup camper for years like it wasn't even behind us and now tows our small travel trailer like a champ. It has enough space to haul family, friends, luggage, equipment, furniture. The back row typically stays up leaving the deep well available for us to fill. Power tailgate has been used thousands, maybe tens of thousands of times, allowing us to load groceries, furniture, sports equipment, you name it. Plus we never had to worry about smashing doors into cars or garage walls. Power sliding doors made it easy for us to load our kids into the van as babies in travel system carriers, then allowed them to climb in as toddlers so we could buckle them, and now our kids climb in and buckle themselves. It has been 100% reliable (only one heater seat TSB fix), is powerful, smooth, comfortable and quiet, and has leather and almost every gadget and gizmo imaginable. Our Odyssey Touring is built like a premium vehicle. We have no reason to even shop for another family vehicle anytime soon. Our Odyssey has stood the test of time, already outlasting 3 of those other vehicles. What we've owned include: Accord, Camry, WRX, Legacy, Tribeca, Prius, TSX and TLX. I came here to tell everyone reading this and anyone researching Odysseys that it's not only an amazing family minivan, but quite possibly the best vehicle we've ever owned - and that's coming from a crazy car guy who can't keep a car longer than 3 years. That means as of this writing, we've had it for 4.5 years and put on about 50k miles.
